Not everyone can travel to a foreign country to do mission work. One of the great things about work teams going to Mangum to work at the MEDICS International Care Global Resources Center is that they will have an opportunity to work in missions right here in Oklahoma. The work we generally need help with is preparing medical supplies, medicines and medical equipment for shipment to long-term and short-term medical mission teams all around the world. This gives the mission team members some of the tools they need to share The Good News that they have a Savior in Jesus Christ our Lord. It is always exciting to hear reports back from overseas teams that we have helped with needed items. They tell us that they could not have been as effective had they not had the needed medical supplies to provide patient care for the needy people that came to their clinic. Providing medical care gave them the opportunity to share Jesus and to invite their patients back that evening for worship services. Because of this many make a decision for Jesus. Our Mangum work teams are a part of that. They might not travel the world to work in missions, but they certainly have a hand in bringing new Christians to Jesus all around the world. They are missionaries, and they do make a difference! Most of the teams that go to Mangum will be working in the pharmacy preparing medicines for shipment. There are times when they might prepare medical supplies for shipment or sort medical supplies from incoming donations. It's always a particular blessing when a volunteer or team has special skills such a carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc., but that is not a requirement. We appreciate them sharing their skills in every day maintenance and upkeep at our facility. If a work team coming to Mangum has any special skills, please let us know in advance and we will have work projects lined up before your arrival. We have had work teams from as far away as California to the West and Pennsylvania to the East, and one thing we do is have fun! All of the teams that have spent time there have commented on what a great time they had with good fellowship and lots of laughter. Each day begins with a group devotion. A normal work day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. with a mid-day break for lunch. We are also very flexible in adapting to the special needs of our visiting team members. MEDICS provides everything but food for your stay. There are two grocery stores in close proximity to the work site. The bunk house is fully equipped. We provide you with beds, bedding, towels, etc. We even have soap and shampoo if you should forget yours. The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, dish washer, oven, range, cooking utensils and silverware. It has a large living room for gatherings, devotions, visiting or just relaxing. We also have a television and VCR should you want to bring movies to watch while you are here. Some teams have assigned cooks for each day and just bring the groceries they will need to prepare the meals for their turn in the kitchen. The bunkhouse will sleep a total of twelve people with beds for six in one bedroom, four in another and two in the third bedroom. If you have any questions about your trip to Mangum, please call Richard Williams. He will do his best to help you in any way he can. His daytime phone number is 580-782-3781, and his cell phone number is 580-512-8904.
