Agricultural development is essential. MEDICS recognizes that 70 percent of all Africans are involved in farming, yet they are unable to meet the nutritional needs of the continent. Each American farmer feeds over 130 people. African farmers often are unable to adequately feed themselves.
MEDICS' concept includes the formation of farmer-owned cooperatives as a local economic business. This would include joint purchasing for better pricing of seed and fertilizer, joint purchasing of farm machinery, and joint marketing for better selling prices.
Without the revitalization of the rural regions, the continued migration to overcrowded cities will continue. The MEDICS concept includes agricultural partners with extensive experience working in developing countries. They understand cooperatives and appropriate technology. Relevant solutions require dramatic and innovative change and a long-term commitment to effect sustainable development.
MEDICS is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax-exempt Christian ministry.
