MEDICS History
Founded 1984
| Beginning | Started under the name Medical Dental Fellowship, now MEDICS International, people have been ministered to in more than 30 countries around the world. Over these 20 years the organization and focus has evolved. |
| Results | What began in a hay barn with a dirt floor has evolved into an advanced holistic ministry. The ministry resulted in the shipment of millions of dollars of medical supplies, hospital equipment, and mobile clinics around the world. As a consequence tens of thousands of lives were improved and thousands more found everlasting life through Jesus Christ. |
| Change | The leadership of MEDICS, working across denominational lines, has continued to focus more on long-term discipleship ministries leading to more effective self-governing, self-supporting, and self-replication churches. Since 2000, there has been a concerted effort to disciple indigenous pastors and their spouses to be more effective in their churches, their community, and their sphere of influence. |
| Tools | Using resource materials from multiple sources, MEDICS created a unique curriculum and training program wherein pastors attend disciple schooling — the equivalent of one week per month for two years. This curriculum is designed very specifically to disciple and equip pastors who have had limited educational opportunities. |
| Rationale | Through this training, pastors better understand the Bible and think as Christians through the use of contextualized, real-life examples and applications. In addition to imparting the meaning and application of God's Word to their people, these pastors also receive valuable training in practical ways to positively impact their church members holistically (body, mind, and spirit). |
| New Results | With one pastor training center in Kenya, the Fire Line was launched to stem the firestorm of darkness spreading from North Africa and the Middle East. Currently MEDICS operates eight (8) pastor training centers (now called Regional Empowerment Centers). |
MEDICS is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax-exempt Christian ministry.
